Partly programming a device

Hi all,

We just received our Dataman pro2 and are programming a AT45DB161D device.
The file we are programming is just a small part of the complete capacity available in the device.

Is it possible to only program the used bytes in the buffer, or some othe solution to speed up the programming ?

Hello Patrick,

Yes, it is possible to only program the area of the device that your data fills. You simply need to modify the "Device end" address in the (Alt+O) menu to be slightly larger than the area your data occupies:

Is the "Device end" address only available for some devices? I'm using a PIC16F84 and I don't see that option.

Hello John,

Technically it is possible, but I can see no reason to implement it for this PIC device. Mainly because programming takes only a short time and there is already a blank-byte-skip system implemented in the algorithm.

But if you insist on this feature for whatever reason, then please let me know and we can provide a quotation for the implementation.
