MC68HC705J1A Mask Option Register (MOR) Programming

Postby nichobeg » 06 Aug 2012 20:46

Hello,

I am attempting to program the MOR register for a Freescale MC68HC705J1A chip using a DATAMAN-48Pro+. These are OTP parts. I am using a chip carrier for the SOIC20 part to mate with the ZIF connector on top. I have the latest version of the control program downloaded off the website.

When I go to program the part there is an option to select either: All device except Option Register, or Option Register.

If I send it my S19 file which inlcudes the byte for address 0x7F1 (the MOR address), and select All device except Option Register AND Option Register, it fills up the device memory with incrementing numbers. Example below:

I have also attempted to program the MOR register as a 2nd step, first programming using my original s19 file and selecting "All device except Option Register", and then as a 2nd step programming the MOR register. After the first step everything is programmed correctly (reading the device into the buffer and verifying it against the s19 file), and then after the 2nd step the device ends up in the the same state as the shown above! Which is weird to me becasue it is supposed to be OTP....

Clearly I am missing something...

I guess my question is, has anyone had success programming the MOR register using a DATAMAN programmer? And what am I doing wrong?

thanks for any help

Hello nichobeg,

Can I ask you to email me a copy of your s19 file and a log file of the steps that you have taken to program the device.

If you can recreate the situation as you describe and then use the "Help | Create problem report" feature which will place a log file on your desktop.

Please some both files to me at [email protected] for analysis.

Thank you for your reply.
As it turns out this was NOT a problem with the programmer at all. I had neglected to pay close attention to the MOR settings that were being programmed, and one of the bits set was to disable EEPROM access after initial programming! So, although the programmer successfully programmed the chip, after reading it back into the buffer it looked like it was not programmed correctly.

All is well, and I appreciate your help.
