I have tried to read the above chip using Software Ver 4.67 but I get a message saying hardware upgrade required, V1.0 B hardware.
Does this mean I have to upgrade despite this chip being listed in the device database?

The two devices you list are 3.3v or low voltage parts. You would need the D48LV or the newer XP model in order to program them.
The LV upgrade board is available from us and is priced at £225 + VAT
