Hello grover64,
Thank you for posting in our user forum. The Dataman S4 supports several different versions of the 87C51 device under the (S4 MCS-51 lib. V1.64) which also requires the MCS-51 Module.
Please try selecting the following algorithm under the Philips manufacturer:
If you need a simpler solution to programming the P87C51UBPN device then I would recommend the Dataman-40Pro Universal 40pin Programmer which comes with everything you need to read and program this device oithout the need for any additional modules.
I have you any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Best regards,

Hello,
Yes, you can try the other selections and see if the situation improves.
Can you provide any details about "but no working prom", does it fail to program? What error message do you get? Or does it program OK on the S4 but does not work in the application? Please sepcify and I will try to help.
Do you need to set the security bytes on this chip? This can be achieved using the FUNC > QUICK commands and then choosing the number of security bytes you want to set.

Hello,
Please read the master device into the S4 RAM, then send the RAM contents to the PC using the serial cable and S4 driver software. If you can then email the .hex or .bin file to [email protected] and I will take a look at the contents to try and determine if the master device is protected or not, if it is protected, then you will not be able to read or copy it.
