What is the way to replace the RAM Chip?
The RAM chip seems to be a soldered chip.
I bought a S6 Dataman, but I would like to use my S4 yet to get the "Function PROM". Function very appreciated on S4 that we cannot find on S6 software.
Tanks for your help,
Mario Drolet

Hello Mario,
The S4 RAM chip is a press fit into the carrier which is soldered to the PCB. It can be carefully prised out of the holder, one end at a time, using a flat blade screwdriver or similar implement.
If you have any problems, please let me know.
Best regards,

Mr. Parker,
Tank's for this precision. Do you have a picture or a schematic diagram to identify precisely the RAM chip.
Your collaboration is so much appreciated.

Tank's a lot for these precision.
My memory, that I confused for a microprocessor is constituted with 2 superposed circuit boards containing 2 memory IC by board.
I think that your memory is the equivalent of my memory kit. The specifications of your memory is 512 kbyte and when I open my S4, the display show "512 k bytes ram".
I uploaded the picture of my memory module. I was not able to insert a picture in this reply.
Your help was very appreciated.
Have a happy Christmas season.

Re: URAM replacement required by a URAM fault on power up.
Mr. Parker,
I removed my URAM kit module just for checking it. Without identification of pin 1 on this module, may be I have inserted back in inverse the module. The Datamam seems to be out of service.
Before to investigate money to fix the problem and buy a new URAM, does the display must show something when the URAM is removed?
For now, even if the reset button is pressed, nothing appears on the screen.
What do you suggest? Buy a new one or try to fix it!
Thanks for your recommendation,
Mario Drolet

Re: URAM replacement required by a URAM fault on power up.
Hello Mario,
The S4 will still power on, display a message on the LCD and emit a sound from the buzzer with the RAM IC removed. If your programmer is showing no signs of life and you are sure that the battery has sufficient charge (>8.4v) then it would appear that your S4 has a fault and will need to be repaired here in our lab.
If you have any questions, please contact me.
