Hello Gabriel,

Thank you for posting in our Dataman user forum.

The AT28HC64-55JC device in the PLCC32 package is supported on the Dataman-40Pro as:

Manufacturer: Atmel
Type: AT28HC64 [PLCC32]
8-bit bytes: 2020h (8,224 Bytes)
Organization: 2020hx8 bit
Algorithm: EEPROM I
Implemented in SW ver.: 2.97 or earlier
Modified in SW ver.: not modified
Package Info: PLCC(32)

Dataman-40Pro with adapter/module:
DIL32/PLCC32 ZIF or
DIL32/PLCC32 ZIF-CS

The error message "DEVICE insertion test -error" and "bad contact pin 21 of programmed chip" indicates bad contact between the programmer and chip, a mis-inserted chip in the adaptor socket, a faulty or damaged chip or a fault with the programmer.

1. Please confirm that you have the recommended adaptor socket mentoned above.
2. Please run the Selftest... from the Programmer menu and let me know the result.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best regards,

Hello Gabriel,

Thank you for the information. Unfortunately without the log file (Help \ Create problem report) showing the work with the device, I cannot say more.

It is very unlikely that the Dataman-40Pro has caused any damage to the chip, the 40Pro performs a device insertion test (wrong device position in socket) and a contact check (poor contact pin-to-socket) before it programs each device. These capabilities, supported by a signature-byte check help prevent chip damage due to operator error.

If you have any questions, please contact me.

Best regards,
