Resize buffer when selecting smaller chips?

Postby Guest » 10 Nov 2011 16:32

Sometimes i work with large nands - 512MB, 1GB etc. but other types I use small eeproms - 2MB etc.

When I have been using a large chip, it automatically loads that chip and makes a buffer to match (512MB etc), then when i switch to a 2MB chip, load my data then do a swap data, it applies the swap to the whole buffer, rather than just the 2MB and takes alot longer then required.

Could the software be updated to create new buffers to match the selected chip, if the selected chip is SMALLER than the existing buffer? or at the very least make it an option in the software?

you already have "erase buffer when selecting new device" could just add "always resize buffer to match when selecting new device"??

Hello Bad_Ad84,

A feasibility analysis of how to solve this issue is currently under way.

I hope to be able to provide you with our conclusion of what to implement and when it will be implemented.

Best regards,

Hello Bad_Ad84,

We will implement the following changes which will solve the problem you initially highlighted:

- for all operations with the buffer that do not currently have a start/end setting, we will add these fields.
- for all operations with the buffer we will set the start/end parameters according to the selected devices location in the buffer, by default.

The result will be that all operations with the buffer will work by default in the range of the selected chip - as for example how the buffer/checksum parameters have worked up to now.

These changes will be implemented in software version 2.72 which will be available shortly. I will post a follow-up with a link to the download.

Best regards,

Hello Bad_Ad84,

The updated software with this feature implemented is now available to download from our main site here.

I hope this makes your experience with our programmers a little bit better.

Still doesnt work as described above.

I select a 512mb nand, buffer is resized to 512mb (528? with extra blocks).

I select 2mb chip, load 2mb of data then goto swap byte and the target range is still for the whole buffer, not the currently selected chip.

Hello Bad_Ad84,

We have implemented this improvement according to this request - the address limits for operations are applied to the buffer according to the size of the selected device.

Please download, install and use latest OnDemand software:
URL: http://www.dataman.com/betasoftware/273d_pg4uward.zip
Version: 2.73d/10.2010

This improvement will be automatically included in the next full software release.

If you have any feedback, please let me know.

Still doesnt work.

here is a screenshot, as you can see the buffer is large from a previously selected chip. but the selected device is smaller.

the default range is still for the whole buffer.

Hello Bad_Ad84,

Yes, you are right. The dialog window for the Copy, Move and Swap commands will be improved in the next release.

I will inform about the availability shortly.
