having NAND erase respect the setup in "access method"

Postby Guest » 10 Nov 2011 16:44

When you press erase, the access method window pops up - with the blocks to use and how many etc. however the software erases the whole chip.

Could we get the software to actually just erase what is specified in the "access method" window?

Hello Bad_Ad84,

Can I ask you for the part name of the chip in question here, just so that we are looking at the same thing and I will check the situation.

HY27UF084G2M
HY27UG084G2M
K9F4G08U0A

are examples, but it seems to be with all NAND devices.

When you press erase, the "Access Method" window pops up, if you change the amount of blocks to use (i.e. 4096 down to say 10) it still seems to erase the whole device.

I'd like to to actually just erase what is on the access method page, as is suggested by it popping up and with you filling in the details in the first place.

Bad_Ad84,

Sorry for the delay in responding. We are still looking into this, specifically how to implement the selective ERASE as this is not a standard feature, but it is possible to implement.

At present the erase button will erase the entire device as was intended.

I will check on our progress and provide an update.

Thanks Neil.

This would save around 40 minutes per chip I program.

Currently I have to read the entire chip, load the replacement bootblocks over the top of the start of the buffer, erase and then write it all back.

I only need to rewrite 8 blocks at the start of the NAND and as the access method pops up (letting you select the number of blocks etc) when you click erase, I figured it would just do what is selected.

Hello Bad_Ad84,

As it currently stands we have come to the conclusion that this selective erase feature for NAND FLASH devices would make sense for other customers too and we will be implementing it into our software. I cannot give you a deadline at this time as significant work is still required, but I will update this post when the feature has been implemented.

Neil,

Just wondering if you can tell me if this is ever going to happen?

I ask because if not, I will be looking to sell my programmer and buy one that does what I want.
