MHS P-80C51

Postby andrew96 » 17 Sep 2012 10:34

Hello Neil

I have the dataman 48UXP and the dataman 40

I am trying to find a way of programming the MHS P-80C51 processors, i know the 48UXP DOES do alot of the 80C51 devices but i cant find one that will work with the MHS chip! (by trying to read a MHS one using other types of 80c51 settings i believe i have killed it!)

Do you have any idea if there is a generic chip/manafacturer to try on it as it seems to be just a standard 80C51 device from that era with nothing special about it!

the data sheet for the chip is here, I have just the normal OTP ones, not any special 'secret rom'versions

http://www.datasheetcatalog.org/datashe ... yzuzvq.pdf

hoping you can help!!

Thankyou
Andrew

Hello andrew96,

I have had a look at the datasheet that you linked to and as far as I can see the MHS P-80C51 is a MASK ROM device, not OTP. This means that the device is programmed at the factory during manufacture using a custom mask.

We do not currently support this device directly in read only mode but you might be able to find a close enough device selection to allow you to read the code out where you could then modify it and program it into a compatible OTP or EPROM based device.

ahhh!! no wonder i could not see anything about how to program it!

I had managed to find online the code i need to burn into one and sort of got confused abit as it seemed others had actually done so! but it seems they were able to read out the code from the device.

so sorry to waste your time Neil, I have some Philips 80C51 OTP ones on order now which the programmer will burn!

Thanks again
Andrew

Hello Andrew,

No worries. You can try selecting the Temic 87C51 ( DIP) or 87C51 (PLCC) using a suitable adapter in order to read your device.

Either programmer should be able to read all the 80C51 devices with 4K ROM.
