USB driver does not install on Windows 11

I am trying to use a Dataman-40Pro on a new computer with Windows 11. I downloaded the latest software (4.00) and installed it, but it cannot connect to the programmer. When I checked the Device Manager I could see it was showing up as an Unknown Device, and when I tried to update the driver, Windows gave me the following error:

"Windows found drivers for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install them.

DATAMAN-40PRO, Universal 40-pindrive Programmer

The install class is not present or is invalid."

How can I resolve this problem?

We are aware of a problem when software v4.00 is installed on a new system, the temporary solution is to install v3.99 and then install v4.00.

I have made Pg4uw software v3.99 available via our dropbox account here:

We think we have found the reason behind this situation and the problem will be fixed soon.

After installing the v3.99 software it did not recognise the programmer initially, but I went to Device Manager, chose the "Unknown Device" and pressed the "Update Driver" button, and once I had done that it appeared correctly. I have now updated to v4.00 and confirmed that I am able to program a flash chip successfully.

Hello Neil,

I have exactly the same problem with my Dataman-40Pro on Windows 11.

The programmer is detected by USB and appears in Device Manager as:
“DATAMAN-40PRO, Universal 40-pindrive Programmer”

However, PG4UW cannot establish connection and always shows:
“Establishing connection failed (EC: E1)”

I already tried:

* reinstalling Windows 11
* reinstalling PG4UW v4.12
* different USB ports
* running as Administrator
* disabling USB power saving

I found this forum topic and saw that installing v3.99 first may solve the problem, but unfortunately the Dropbox link is no longer available.

Could someone please provide:

* an updated download link for PG4UW v3.99
or
* another workaround for this Windows 11 USB driver issue?

Additional information:

The programmer is visible in Device Manager with VID_1393 & PID_0579, so Windows detects the hardware correctly, but communication with the programmer firmware fails and the software switches to Demo mode.

Dear Neil,

I have attached the problem report for analysis.

As additional troubleshooting, I have already:

installed PG4UW v3.99 and then upgraded to the latest version
tested on both Windows 11 and Windows 10
tried different USB cables and USB ports
disabled USB power saving settings
tested the programmer on another PC where an identical Dataman programmer works correctly

Unfortunately, the issue remains the same:
"Establishing connection failed (EC: E1)"

Could you please advise on any additional diagnostics or whether this may indicate a hardware or firmware issue with the programmer itself?
