I want to know if it is possible to connect the Dataman-48LV by a IEEE-1284 compatibel parallel - USB converter.
We have plans to order a new notebook without any parallel connector. I want to connect the dataman-48LV via a usb converter.
If anyone have the experience please let me know

Hi,

Unfortunately due to that fact that the D48 uses the parallel port in a non standard way does not allow for the USB to parallel converter to be used. You should be able to find a PCMCIA card to parallel port adaptor which should work correctly.

Hope this helps.

I have tried to use a PCMCIA - parallel card which is ( as it says ) ecp/epp/ spp / bpp IEEE1284c. But it does'nt work. I think dataman software communicate directly tot a parallel port and not via Windows drivers which are used to support the PCMCIA card.
Are there any other suggestions?

Hi,

As you have discovered the Dataman uses the parallel port in a non standard way. This is why you have not had any success with the PCMCIA card.
There is no other solution other than using the built in port on a PC. I appreciate that not all newer laptops and even now some desktops have a parallel port built in.

You could upgrade your programmer to the UXP model which has a USB connection.
