This thread is 9 years old (!) so I'm coming to it a bit late, but are older libraries still available ?
The link is dead but the pre-split library 2.93 sounds like a convenience, even if it doesn't support some later devices.
I suspect that many people using an S4 rather than a more modern programmer are doing that because it's very useful as a repair and maintenance tool, in environments where 1Mbit and smaller devices are still often encountered.
I bought it because I wanted to program a 64kbit device and my Stag PP39 chose that moment to start trippng RCBOs (a victim of the dreaded Rifa Y-rated capacitors, I suspect .. smoke is imminent). The S4 is a long-admired replacement.
I'm no stranger to ancient test equipment - I passed on my Data I/O System 17 several years ago and the recipient still uses it
