Hello everyone,

I have four questions, related to my S4:

1) I assume that, while in emulation mode, user cannot alter contents of Dataman's memory?
2) How do I check how good is my Lithium cell? Is voltage measurement relevant?
3) What is approximately the voltage of fully charged NiCd pack?
4) If I use AC/AC charger that has higher max. rated current (but the same voltage at the output as the original charger), could it do any harm to Dataman or NiCd cells?

Hello Nikola,

Correct, you would have to exit emulation mode in order to modify the user RAM.
A good lithium should measure 3v or above whilst in circuit, any less and it is not doing its job.
A fully charged NiCad pack should be around 9.6v but this quickly falls to around 9.2v when in use.
The S4 is not able to regulate the current from an external charger, if this exceeds 650mAh then damage will be caused to the S4 charging circuitry and battery pack. I would only recommend using a Dataman charger or one know to be limited to the above level.

Thanks Neil, this is very useful piece of information.

While charging (with original Dataman charger) I've recorded voltage of 10.13V before the charging was stopped (of course, the unit was closed during charging). I assume this is normal? It looked a bit too high to me.

The voltage you saw was at the end of the charging process and is quite normal for S4.
