Just purchased the Dataman 48PRO because your 48XP that I already own did not support the IntelJS28F128P33B flash. Anyway, I continue to get the following error:

Programming device: Intel JS28F128P33B [TSOP56].
L8625: Device insertion test ...
L8626: Device insertion test - error!
L8627: Bad contact at pin(s) 4 of ZIF.
L8628: Elapsed time: 0:00:00.7

Now, I have tired 6 different brand new flash with two different DIL48/TSOP56 ZIF and all fail with the same error. I have also ran the self test with your diagnostic pod-type I and it passed all tests. This unit is brand new, both ZIFs I have tired are brand new but yet I still can not get this thing to work.

I am using PG4UW v2.36/03.2007

What do I do? I need help really quick please.

Darrell make shure you have the right adapter (Dil48/TSOP56 Zif 18.4mm Flash-5) in the zif socket.
1st try flipping the adapter end for end it may be inserted backwards
2nd inspect the socket verry close and make shure there is nothing out of place and every things looks even and in good working condition (its saying that pin 4 in not conected or shorted out to a pin next to it)
3rd you can try disableing the the insertion test ONLY if your shure you have it inserted right or you may damage the flash.
4th you can try the settings for the JS28F640P33B Flash and disable device verification to see if it is in the software end.

I know there is usualy nothing wrogn other then simple miss alignment of the packages that causes errors like pin contact and over current on a pin.

-->Losing my mind here, I have just never had problems with Dataman programmers before and in my career have programmed thousands with ZIF style sockets so from a physical placement I am no noob.

Thanks for the help... anyone else, close to returning this unit for a refund.

I now went back and placed the flash in the ZIF using a scope, so I know for a fact the pins are aligned properly...
The funny thing is now I have bad contacts at pins 4 and 25 of ZIF. That was on ZIF #1, removed this one and added AIF #2 and I am back to pin 4 only. Again, both flash chips were placed in the ZIF using my scope, I can see everything very well and the pins are aligned. This is frustrating.

The insertion test bug is fixed, new code will be issued in version 2.37 software (12.4.07)

In the mean time please disable insertion test. This will allow you to program the devices.

I will post a link for the new software tomorrow.

The insertion test bug is fixed, new code will be issued in version 2.37 software (12.4.07)

In the mean time please disable insertion test. This will allow you to program the devices.

Hello Darrell,

Are the chips failing at the same addresses each time or are they all different?

We have some samples of this chip here but cannot recreate the problem you are describing.

Since Friday we've tested the repetitive programming of JS28F128P33B -
100 cycles without error (random data for each cycle).
I believe the problem is somewhere else, but not in the software.

I really don't understand this situation. The programmer is OK(selftest result), programming adapters are also OK, chips are new, ... and still there is a problem.

We also have a few programming adapters and 3 sample chips - and no errors have occured here.
The insertion test error occurred just 3 times, not always on the same pin, but randomly. This is expected.

I see only one solution - please send one programming adapter and one chip to us.

I know it is strange, but how do you catch a ghost?

Thanks Neil, I am working with your team in Florida, they already inspected my sockets and sent them back to me. I am downloading the new software now and will get back to you with my results. Can you send me the settings your engineers used to program their chips?
