Motorola MC68HC908AB32 Proto Board Help for ISP

Postby BrooksCircuitSpecialists » 22 Jun 2021 17:26

Hello again!

Presently I'm trying to get a protoboard going for the Motorola MC68HC908AB32. I've created a board and installed the device. Then I replicated the circuit provided in the Device Information. Dataman-48Pro2

Many pins are left floating, but all of the VSS and VDD are in parallel, Crystal Oscillator is added, capacitor on the power, and Short leads to the programmer.

I'm using the Dataman to power the IC.

I'm getting the "Device Does Not Respond" error.

Can you please put me in the right direction for making the needed adjustments to my proto board?

Also, is there a way to connect to the Socket instead of the ISP connector so that I do not have to have a protoboard with its own oscillator etc?

Respectfully,
Tyler

Hello Tyler,

We have an application note: In-Circuit programming of Motorola/Freescale microcontrollers, HC08 series.
URL: https://www.dataman.com/mwdownloads/dow ... nk/id/276/

which may help with some of the terms and pin names used for ISP.

We are confident that our implementation of this ISP support is OK.

If you can provide the complete schematics of your board so that we can see how the environment around the MC68HC908AB32 is prepared for on-board programming, we can then offer further help or suggestions.

Best regards,

The schematic of my board is an exact copy of the schematic in the device information/ISP Connection in your software. All pins that are not a part of the ISP schematic are left floating.

Also the question about using the DIL48 connector instead and running leads to it.

Tyler,

From our engineers:

Check the datasheet:
Section: Monitor ROM, Monitor mode entry, PTC0, PTC1 level.
Try to isolate COM pin PTA0 using a jumper instead of a resistor.
Try DIV4 PTC3 level.
Try a slower comm speed.
Try to lower or omit the C2 capacitor in the reset circuit.

Please let me know of this does not improve the situation.

Extending the signals from the ZIF socket is not recommended or supported by Dataman.
