Validation of program into the chip

Postby Monariza_esa » 09 Jan 2025 03:17

Hello,

I am using this programmer along DIL16W/SOIC16ZIF 150mil sockets. I have not encountered any errors after running the program into the ICs.
However, for this time, we are only using 1 program for this particular chip but what shall we do if let say, we have different type of program (or maybe new/updated program), how do we select the program or project to program the ICs?

And how about firmware? shall we include firmware program (.hex file) into the same folder as in .eprj file folder or under different folder? please advise.

Regards,
/Mona

Hello Monariza_esa,

The best way to work with multiple programmign data files is to create project files. A project file not only contains the programmed data (hex/bin) but it also contains the device selection and any configurations settings for the device. Loading a project file will setup the software with all the necessary information to just begin programmig devices.

Where you story the hex/bin files is up to you, they do not need to be in the same directory as the project files. Once a project file is created, the hex/bin file is contained within it. If you generate a new programming file (hex/bin) then you can load it into the software and save out a new project file.

I hope this answers your question, if not , please let me know.
Best regards,

Dear Mr Parker,

Thank you for your reply. Since I am very new to this device. What are the steps to create new program (.eprj file? using the .hex file that is given to me. I have tried to create new project file but when I chose the file and tried to program the chip, it say I have not selected any program to be uploaded. Can I have a clear steps to get the same result as the existing project file. What should I prepare in advance before I can successfully create the project file to uploaded in qa new chip.
Please advice.

Regards,
Mona

To create a new project file (.eprj) using the provided .hex file and successfully program the chip, follow these steps:

Preparation:
Before starting, ensure you have:

PG4UW software installed and running.
The correct programmer connected to your PC.
The .hex file that needs to be loaded.

Steps to Create a New Project File:
Load the HEX file:

Open PG4UW software.
Set Up Device Configuration:

Select the target chip/device from the device list.
Click on File > Load File and select your .hex file.
Ensure the buffer is correctly filled with the file contents.
Adjust any necessary programming settings.

Save the Project File (.eprj):

Click on File > Save Project As.
Enter a name and choose a location to save the .eprj file.
This will save both the buffer data and device settings.

Load the Created Project File:

Click on File > Load Project.
Select your .eprj file.
Ensure the buffer and settings are correctly loaded.

Program the Chip:

Insert the chip into the ZIF socket as per the programmer's instructions.
Click on Program to start the process.
Wait for confirmation that the programming was successful.

Troubleshooting:
If you get an error stating "no program selected", ensure that:
The project file contains the correct buffer data.
The device is properly selected before saving the project.
You are loading the project file and not just the .hex file before programming.
This process ensures that your new project file works exactly like an existing one. Let me know if you need further clarification!
