Hi,

I've been asked to help with a Motorola MC68705R3CS. I've got a 48XP which I've not used for a very long time. I now longer have my PC with a parallel port but I have an old Vista laptop which should run the software. Can anyone recommend a USB to parallel port adapter which would work for my setup?

The Dataman-48XP programmer uses the parallel port in a slightly non-standard way. This means that the programmer will only work over a parallel port that is part of the PC/laptop motherboard. We have not found any USB-to-parallel, PCI/PCI express-to-parallel solution that works with this programmer.

As the UXP upgrade kit (adds a USB port) for this programmer is no longer available the only option is to locate a pc/laptop with a built in parallel port.

If you are looking for a replacement programmer with USB support and OS support from Windows XP to Windows 11, then I would recommend considering the Dataman-48Pro2 universal programmer.

Thank you for the quick and detailed reply. It's not the answer I was hoping for but at least I won't waste time trying cables that wont work. As I'm try to help a friend out as a favor I think my best option is to get an old PC with a parallel port.

I'm back in business, I forgot I've got an old Win2000 laptop with a parallel port. I've installed the software and it runs ok.... but...
The "blank" check runs ok and identifies my chip isn't blank but the "read" button is greyed out, could you give me any advice? Many thanks.

The Motorola MC68705R3CS chip cannot be read by design, therefore the read operation is not available (not supported by our programmers).

That's a real shame the chip can't be read but at least I now know and won't waste anymore time on it.

And I've now got my 48XP up and running.... I just need to find something to do with it!
