Hi,
Having experienced some problems with the Dataman-48 under Windows XP, we recently updated the programmer with the XP board. This works as expected when connected to a Compaq desktop that has a parallel port setting of ECP+EPP.
Unfortunately, it doesn't work with a Dell notebook with a parallel port setting of ECP. I understand that the Dataman-48XP specifically states that the mode must be EPP, but this notebook only has options for Disabled, Normal, Bi-directional, and ECP.
I have downloaded and installed the latest Dataman-48XP software (v5.20) from the web site but it always fails to find the attached programmer.
The Dataman-48XP software reports the following in the Help | About box:
LTKPE1 Driver V1.61
LTKPE2 Driver V1.61
LTKPE3 Driver V1.61
However, the driver reported for the parallel port under Control Panel | System | Device Manager | Ports | ECP Parallel Port (LPT1) | Properties is as follows:
Driver Provider: Microsoft
Driver Date: 01/07/2001
Driver Version: 5.1.2600.0
Driver Files: C:\WINDOWS\System32\DRIVERS\parport.sys
Provider: Microsoft Corporation
File version: 5.1.2600.1106 (xpsp1.020828-1920)
Is it possible to overcome this problem?
Thanks,
Bruce J Clark

Re: Dataman-48XP - EPP v's ECP Mode
Dear Sir,
Im afraid that as the documentation states, the parallel port must be set to EPP for the Dataman 48XP to be detected.
This is due to the dynamic way that Windows XP accesses the parallel port, it is beyond our control.
The best I can advise is that you continue to
use the Dataman 48XP exclusively on your Compaq desktop which does detect the programmer.
Best regards,
Neil

Hi,
Mayby this can be a solution for laptops: http://www.quatech.com/catalog/parallel_pcmcia.php
I'm not related to quatech but I potentally have the same problem with my Libretto who has ECP only as well.
I'm considering to get one my self.

Hi,
I've bought an SPP-100 (PCMCIA EPP Parallel Port)made by Quantech and now I can use my 48XP again from a laptop.

Dear Sir,
Thank you for this information, I would like to inform you that the latest software 5.40 for the Dataman 48XP fixes the bug with the parallel port settings and so now you can use this software with the Dataman 48XP connected via a parallel port set to EPP or ECP.
Best regards,
Neil
