I am having trouble flashing a Winbond 29C020 chip. I get a failure message that shows a memory address and then shows a different value at that location for the rom and ram.

I had the same error message with a Macronix 29F002 until I did a CE (chip erase) and then it flashed okay. The Winbond chip does not allow a chip erase. I have downloaded and am using the latest S4 Windows driver and S4 Library.

Am I doing something wrong? I load the file from my computers hard drive or a: drive to the ram in the S4 and after using the electronic signature to id the chip and 'enter' select 'burn' Keep getting the same error. To the best of my knowledge the chips are good and will display a 'will burn' when tested.

These are chips for motherboard bios files.

I use this S4 for a lot of programming of EEPROMS with never a problem, but have just gotten into the flash rom.

Hi, L D Walker

It sounds as though the device you have is not blank, The S4 displays BLANK ROM when the device is blank, WILL BURN indicates that the chip can be burnt but there is data on it, it may be possible to burn data to the address range that is not being already used on the device.

Hope this helps

Hi,

Winbond chips are shipped with the Software Data Protection enabled.

To disable it (before you program) please do the following:

Press FUNC QUICK and select DATA PROTECT OFF and press enter.

Now you should be able to program and erase with no problems, if you still get problems then press FILL and fill the entire address range of the device with FF, this is the same as erasing it.

Hope this helps,

Neil

Hello! DATAMAN

I have a DATAMAN-48LV & a PLD ALTERA-EPM5130
and one BIG PROBLEM: how to program this device.
Which device to select (corect algoritam) and
which adapter to build (pin swaping table, for epm5130)?
Sorry for my bad English...

Thanks

Hi xenon,

The ALTERA-EPM5130 is not curently supported on the D48LV. I will forward a request to add this device to the engineer and will post here once I have an answer.

Hi,
The engineers reply is as follows:

This chip has been obsolete since 5 years ago. and it is a 100 pin QFP chip. We have never supported such a device.
This chip is also expensive and has a difficult algorythm.
