Confused about file formats (S4)

Postby Guest » 11 Nov 2011 15:08

I just got a S4 with 512k. I'm new to device programming. Tried to "load" an AMIC A29040, supposed to be the equivalent of an AMD AM29F040. The programmer stops at 07FXX and just sits there blinking. Tried transferring this file to the PC but only get around 78k of data. This chip is supposed to have the full 512k of data, and I'm wondering where I messed up. The S4 is set to Intel format. The file I'm supposed to write to this chip is 512k in size. I'd like to save the current data from the chip to the pc before burning the new file.

Update and clarification- The AMIC A29040 is not a supported chip. Its signature is 3786 and the S4 says no match in the library (2.88). I then tried a couple of the listings from the AMIC crossref, namely the AMD AM29F040, and the Winbond 29C040. Neither of these algorithms (77 and C5) worked, I was still unable to erase the chip (FUNC-BURN or FUNC-QUICK). The machine just sits there, hung on "5v ERASE". A subsequent test says "Will Burn" instead of Blank. I sent the AMIC datasheet to Neil in an email last night. Am I doing something wrong? The data sheet says the chip has "sector protection" but that it does support full chip erase. I was finally able to get a proper file size out of the chip by clearing the S4's memory (writing all FF) then reloading from the AMIC chip, then setting the file format to Binary. After that, the file I tramsferred to the PC was of the correct size, (524,288). Small steps. But how can I erase this chip to program? Thanks!

Dear Sir,

I am currently in the process of obtaining samples of these devices for my engineer to gain the full programming and erasure support on the Dataman S4. Please join the software update notification mailing list on the software page of our website to receive e-mail confirmation of software updates.

Best regards,

Neil
