I've downloaded the S4 Driver for Windows ver. 1.108. But it doesn't work under Win2000 and Win NT on my PC at all. Do you have an idea why? Any solutions or advice? Thanks in advance.

Re: Problems driving S4 under Win2000 and Win NT
Hi,
The S4 windows driver is not officially supported on W2K or NT5, however we all use it here at Dataman on these operating systems with no problems at all. Please try re-installing the driver software after downloading it from the S4 software page of our website, if this does not work then you will have to use a Windows 9x operating system.
Hope this helps,
Neil

Problem wit Win ME. One of my partners is using an HP Omnibook with Win ME. When he tries to down load code and burn it, the checksums don't match and the data is corrupt. I do exactly the same thing on my 98 SE IBM and it works fine. Is there a problem with the ME?

Hi,
Same as above, the S4 driver is not officially supported on Windows ME, although I have used it before on this OS with no problems. In a case like this I have to recommend that you use an officially supported OS such as the Windows 9x family.
Regards,
Neil

Re: Problems driving S4 under Win2000 and Win NT
Now I have a new dilemma. I was issued a new laptop. A Compaq EVO 800, running W2K. It has NO serial comm. ports, only USB ports, and a single PCMCIA port.
The USB are configured as comm 6 and 5 (virtuals).
I can not force them to be any of the 4 ports the S4 supports. Is there any patch to the software that will let me use the USB ports, with a USB to serial adapter and my S4?

Hi again,
No Im afraid not, S4 was made with serial port technology in mind, there are adaptors available commercially that can convert from serial to USB connections but if you are having the problems that you mention then you are best to move to a machine that utilises serial ports.
Best regards,
Neil

I ran S4 driver for windows on both a Win2k and an NT 4 machine. But, the solution to the problem is don't run version 1.108 it will not work. Download version 1.0 (windows 3.1 version) and it will work fine.

Hi,
There shouldnt be a problem running the latest S4 driver software on Windows NT4, please try re-installing it on your machine. We have had no problems with the driver on this operating system.

Neil

Hi,
We have lots of new PC's at our site all running under WinXP. When is expected to release the new driver for WinXP?

Re: Problems driving S4 under Win2000 and Win NT
I use the S4 under both Win ME and Win XP with no problems.
The only problem I have ever had with the S4 software is on a laptop running XP which used a USB to Serial port adapter. Some investigation revealed that the driver for the adapter was not 100% reliable at fast baud rates but was fine at 38400. Note that this was the fault of the USB adapter rather than XP or the S4.
